The Origins of My Opening of Kangqiao Bakery in the UK

Thank you to the Facebook page administrator of "Immigrant Stories Across the Ocean" for the invitation, which gave me the opportunity to share the origins of my journey in starting Kang Chiao Bakery in the UK. Please enjoy my journey from a baking novice to a professional Taiwanese pastry baker. My growth process of starting a business in a foreign land was filled with laughter and tears. The process was not easy, but it felt so good to strive for my dreams in a foreign land!

Without sacrifice, one can achieve nothing!

Those who have never experienced hardship are afraid of storms;
People who haven't experienced setbacks are especially vulnerable;
Those who have never lost or failed will find it difficult to succeed.
Those who have never experienced pain and suffering will not know how to make sacrifices.

Every experience is a test, a valuable lesson, and a stepping stone to your success.

"Taiwan's Station in the UK" (Episode 1)

Following the poet's description of "Saying Goodbye to Cambridge Again," and yearning for the academic halls, she came to Cambridge, England for study. By chance, she met him at King's College, Cambridge, who was studying at Queen's College. Because of this chance encounter, the romance that lasted for two months of studying in England turned into love. Because of this relationship, she was able to have a lifetime of free overseas study and live in a family language school next to Cambridge University.

This was a life I never imagined. From a Taiwanese daughter, I married a man 8,000 miles away in the UK and became a "Taiwanese resident in the UK." During my studies abroad, as a tourist, everything seemed new and exciting. But as I became a settled "new resident of Cambridge," I found it difficult to adapt to anything. In the UK, with its completely different food, climate, environment, friends, and language, and with my family not around, I felt even more lonely and isolated. But by the time I felt this, I was already on board.

Our love story, which began in River Cam, Cambridge, was unexpectedly disrupted by the passing of my mother and homesickness. Like a storm, it swept through my life, plunging me into despair and nearly throwing me off course. But thanks to the support of love, my husband's unwavering devotion over the past twenty years, and the heartfelt encouragement of my two sons, I was able to overcome the storms and hardships, and together, my family has reached new heights, creating a beautiful life hand in hand.

In the darkest nights of my life, it was his companionship, his guidance through storms, that kept me from losing my way, and led to the sweet joy of holding hands and growing old together. The baker at Wan Gao Bing (a bakery chain) experienced both laughter and tears during her entrepreneurial journey in a foreign land; the process wasn't easy, but the feeling of striving for her dreams in a foreign place was truly wonderful!
