I founded Kang Chiao Bakery because I hope it will be a place that rekindles the passion for life in people with learning disabilities, creating a space where they can learn happily and move forward bravely.
Kang Chiao Bakery is not a shelter for people with learning disabilities, but rather aims to provide them with diverse employment opportunities through career transition education and vocational training, helping them break free from the established social model of assistance and dependence, and rekindle their hope for dreams.
Our products include pineapple cakes, Chinese pastries, and vegetarian snacks. The goal of this company is to teach people with learning disabilities a skill so that, although their learning time is longer, they can support themselves through their own efforts, reduce their dependence on social welfare, and build self-confidence. Since they face greater challenges competing in the market with others, we assist them in selling our products and establishing sales channels.
Another goal of Kang Chiao Bakery is to raise funds for charities by producing pineapple cakes and pastries. In addition to training life skills and providing workplace employment guidance, if the product line is sufficient in the future, it plans to take the next step to support learning disabilities by operating a café selling beverages, desserts and vegetarian food, and developing employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities by combining various sheltered workshops and shops with the leisure industry.
Why choose to help people with learning disabilities? They are in the gray area between low intelligence and normal intelligence, and are often overlooked. It is important that only by providing them with proper teaching and learning can they have the opportunity to live in society through their own efforts.
Kang Chiao Bakery is currently carrying out this work on its own. The studio now has an assistant who is a single mother with learning disabilities. After more than a year of training, she has made significant progress. She makes and sells various pastry products such as handmade cookies, pineapple cakes, and festive gift boxes, thereby developing the employment potential of people with learning disabilities and providing them with diverse employment opportunities.
I hope to find a foundation to support me. My personal strength is limited. Rather than giving him fish, I would rather teach him how to fish so that we can continue to promote this good deed of "teaching people to fish" and find patient teachers to teach him. People need food to live on, and this is a social enterprise with the opportunity to create profits and achieve a win-win situation.
This past year has made me deeply realize that "people who do good deeds" are like people who crawl into bed in the cold winter. At first, it is the person who warms the bed, and later it is the bed that warms the person, and their heart is warmed as well.
When more people choose to do good and make our living environment warmer, more people will join together for warmth. With mutual support, understanding, and tolerance, the social environment, like a warm blanket, will preserve all the goodness, and the kindness and beauty of the world will be intertwined with us.
